This weekend we had our kid in a sports activity that started really early so as I gesture of my kindness and generosity I offered to do something I personally rarely ever do and that is make a Starbuck's run. I thought my wife and friend would enjoy it and score me some points.
So I take the order.......OMG......I had no idea but maybe you'll see the insanity of how we've become with just an order for 3 coffees....
Wife: I'd like a Venti (that's supersize large) sugar free, skim vanilla latte, extra shot.
Friend of wife: Sure, a Venti Mocha, skim, sugar free, no whip
Me: I ususally just get coffee but decided to get a venti skim latte, extra shot of espresso.
They also wanted food. They wanted a bagel for which they had none so we got 2 blueberry muffins, 1 Starbucks coffee cake, 1 brown sugar and cinnamon coffee cake
All this added up to about $30!!!!!! This is today's version of coffee and a doughnut, right? You have to be kidding. We are complete idiots. I can imagine people who run through that drive through everyday and what they spend. Yikes. People who drink Starbucks should never complain about the price of gas.

I didn't really expect anything different.....just commenting on how stupid we are to waste that kind of money on such silly indulgences. This in many ways is the point of the blog to point out the ridiculous way in which we live in sojoco and consider it normal.
On a side note, reading today in the paper Starbucks announced they are closing 600 stores. I wonder if any will be in sojoco? Probably not, although the one in Westport is closing.
It would be funny if they closed the new one at 127th and Antioch just months after it opened... Ultimately, I don't really care. I avoid Starbucks like the plague.
I'm all for local coffee shops. I go to them whenever it is practical to do so. I agree with you on that completely. Die Starbucks!!!!
you can shorten your order by using skinny for sugar free+skim milk.
But yeah, that's bullshit. I think the food at starbucks is crap anyway. Latte Land's food is usually pretty good, and the Roasterie (in Brookside...wait... that's like, 3 hours from SOJOCO...) has a really large sampling of food for tons of local vendors. But yeah, you're in SOJOCO. Suck it.
