Sinic Gets Trashy!

Last trash day JOCOeveryman could have been witnessed chasing the Deffenbaugh guys down the street at 7 AM with a big green can on wheels in tow. They were only a few doors past ours and since Spring Break kept the trash indoors the week prior it was getting a little ripe. Almost blew it. I need to get it out the night before. I need to get it out the night before. Luckily, they saw me and were gracious enough to wait. Whew.

Our neighborhood association is pretty good. It is really a thankless job. We have a good, active board and they aren't too intrusive but also do their job. They haven't raised fees in a couple years. I go to one annual meeting a year to check up on them and have always found them to have everything in good order and alwaysseem mindful of keeping spending down.

The bigger is point is that getting involved in your neighborhood association or serving on a volunteer committee for the city or county is a great way to serve your community AND make a positive impact on people's lives. The big national races are sexy and they certainly make a difference but I think people overlook just how much is done at the local level. Get involved.

Just look at the stress in poor Sinic's life on trash day everyday she lived in KCMO.

I serve on our local village election board. All the "village people" think I do it for free as my civic duty. But in fact, it pays $10/hr. I sit on my ass and eat brownies and hand out ballots for 8 hours!COOL!
Regarding Recycling--we do it here & it's a big pain in the ass. Just don't get caught commingling items or you are in trouble-even though the Onyx dudes throw it all in the same bin!

Jayne.....you are all right with me. We are allowed to mix it all up....just no glass.

$10 and hour? that's pretty good. You are a good citizen.

JE- I need to reiterate the necessity to recycle and its importance. I am not opposed to the monthly task. I just wish there was a bit more flexibility in how it is separated and processed. We live only about three miles from our own Mt. Trashmore-county dump. It is a scary site. Knowing that my milk jugs and pop bottles are recycled gives me some peace of mind that I am doing my part, albeit small!

It was stressful! Unlike JoCo, the world does not make sense in KCMO.

Thanks for the link

You are welcome, Sinic. I'm glad you moved to a better part of town. Do you look more like the girl with the flag on your profile or Lindsey?

Oh JE. Neither, I'm afraid.

recycling is good. Even JOCO people do it.
