Sinic Gets Trashy!

Last trash day JOCOeveryman could have been witnessed chasing the Deffenbaugh guys down the street at 7 AM with a big green can on wheels in tow. They were only a few doors past ours and since Spring Break kept the trash indoors the week prior it was getting a little ripe. Almost blew it. I need to get it out the night before. I need to get it out the night before. Luckily, they saw me and were gracious enough to wait. Whew.

I'm writing about Sinic's post today. link.....While our neighborhood switched to the big recycling can program last year I know others still haven't. It is a good deal. Much less goes into the trash and more into the recycling bin. At first I was concerned because they weren't going to take anything that doesn't fit in the can but it really hasn't been a problem. We also keep a separate box for glass (because they won't recycle it) and we run it over to Boulevard guys deal. Anyway, in the face of increased costs, our board determined this was the way to go. My only complaint is that the extra big can on wheels takes up lots of space in the garage.

Our neighborhood association is pretty good. It is really a thankless job. We have a good, active board and they aren't too intrusive but also do their job. They haven't raised fees in a couple years. I go to one annual meeting a year to check up on them and have always found them to have everything in good order and alwaysseem mindful of keeping spending down.

The bigger is point is that getting involved in your neighborhood association or serving on a volunteer committee for the city or county is a great way to serve your community AND make a positive impact on people's lives. The big national races are sexy and they certainly make a difference but I think people overlook just how much is done at the local level. Get involved.
