I read/saw this on Conservative with a Heart's blog a little bit ago and it really touched me. Thank you to her because I don't watch American Idol and clearly would have missed it.
Funny how you can be all full of bloggy piss and vinegar and then one little thing can just stop you right in your tracks. I need to look for the things that inspire me more instead of just the things that piss me off.
It isn't that this girl has a bunch of siblings with Down syndrome that touched me as if that wasn't enough it was her mother. She said in reference to having her first child with Down syndrome, "....to have the privilege of raising someone with Down syndrome." Wow. It wasn't a line. It was genuine. It stopped me in my tracks.
I know so many who would think of that as a burden and think of that life as less meaningful.
This woman is very, very special.
Her daughter Maddy, then sang beautifully if not shyly and it was perfect. ly. appropriate.
