New Dunkin Donuts Causes Different Kind of Hunger

I've read several great posts about the awesomeness of DD coming to sojoco......more signs of why life is better in the Golden Ghetto....or that this is such a big deal shows how absolutely lame it is. It might be possible that folks in Johnson County haven't had a carb in years by the way everyone flocked to the Grand Opening this morning.

Today's official grand opening was complete mayhem. Poor Hardee's next door had their parking lot full of people walking over to DD as well as the now closed People's Bank building. Traffic was jammed and Overland Park police were directing traffic.

Was all this for donut and a cup of coffee? Well maybe but I think it is possible that SOJOCO'ers are actually so hungry for something else. A winner. It is a little lame that the closest thing we have to a winner in professional sports in this town hasn't played in about 20 some odd years. George Brett was making an appearance for the Grand Opening. I know there was a charity play but it is telling that I've had to explain to my children why this old(er) guy is a big deal cause anyone younger than about 35 doesn't know there ever was a day in the sun for the Royals and at least drinking age to remember a day we pretend was the glory days for Chiefs. I say pretend because there wasn't even a Super Bowl appearance during those Marty days.

Does anyone else find it sad that this town doesn't have anyone else to put on a ridiculous pedestal? Jeez.......we all love George Brett but don't you think even he is getting a little tired of being the King of KC?

when I told u I disliked the bigger fonts, I didn't mean add dialogue bubbles above everyone's head.

Little bit overkill.

the fact the the DD opening was such a big deal with people arriving at 2am makes this town a provincial 3rd grade city.I hate to think what would happen if they opened a trader joe's or IKEA

Hey I am younger than 35 and know who George Brett is - met his wife at a bar (a very classy one such as hogs and heifers) in NY one weekend when visiting. She was very proud of her husband's status.

As for those Chiefs I still support but it is a sad state at the moment.

Meesha....I agree. Didn't know they started even that early. Crazy.

Anon....I do things in excess. You noticed I didn't stop using the bigger fonts I hope? I like them. I'm sure the dialogue bubbles are just a faze.....I like them and I don't see anybody else doing it right now.....so original as well.....don't you think? What do you like?

AnonII.....perhaps I wasn't clear...everyone knows George Brett...younger people never saw him play......bad writing on my part.

Perhap with the unemployment rate as high as it is I'm thinking folks packed up the kids for a free breakfast?? No where to go and no money- so head to DD for a glimpse of George and a free dognut&coffee.I know one time my mom and I went to a grand opening of a super market just for free donut, and that was in Iowa where there are no celebs...LAME!

Jayne.....people in $100,000 cars going for a free donut? I guess that's possible. Thanks for weighing in....

JE-was the "weighing in" a play on words? Now that you know I am 30bmi and I go to stores looking for samples....makes me wonder?

I know how you feel, Jocoeveryman. I had an anonymous commenter on my blog talk about his halloween costume when *I know* a person who reads my blog who had the exact same costume.

It's weird, huh?

Sinic.....love when you stop by to get inspiration. Flatters an old guy like me....really. I remember that thing you wrote on couples costumes.......was that it? Didn't see any anonymous comment on there.

Oh....also Sinic......I admit freely that I sometimes comment on other blogs anonymously. I don't have a problem with it. I just thought it was funny you said something about it and then did it in return. I think you and I do it for different reasons.

I don't comment anonymously on blogs...

Sinic....if you say so....

Doesn't everyone have KSS blog as their home page? I read it everyday.....sometimes twice.
