Raising Children with Down syndrome a Privledge

A9 1 @ Yahoo! Video

I read/saw this on Conservative with a Heart's blog a little bit ago and it really touched me. Thank you to her because I don't watch American Idol and clearly would have missed it.

Funny how you can be all full of bloggy piss and vinegar and then one little thing can just stop you right in your tracks. I need to look for the things that inspire me more instead of just the things that piss me off.

It isn't that this girl has a bunch of siblings with Down syndrome that touched me as if that wasn't enough it was her mother. She said in reference to having her first child with Down syndrome, "....to have the privilege of raising someone with Down syndrome." Wow. It wasn't a line. It was genuine. It stopped me in my tracks.

I know so many who would think of that as a burden and think of that life as less meaningful.

This woman is very, very special.

Her daughter Maddy, then sang beautifully if not shyly and it was perfect. ly. appropriate.

I saw this last night and couldn't figure out if they were Mormons or hippies...

regardless, I was pleased with her voice and I hope she makes it far in the competition...what a nice family!

Very touching! What an amazing family and what a unique way to look at raising a child with Down’s Syndrome. I love it.

I can only hope that my daughter develops into the kind of gal that Maddy is, and her sibs with the extra chromosomes help make her who she is. The Mom is a real saint for taking on more kids than she ever planned for. It is nothing less than fabulous.

PS-I feel God dealt me a real winning hand with the birth of my Wyatt. I would not want him any other way, not that his Down syndrome defines who he is, but it just makes him so unique.I am lucky that he's mine.
