Monday Morning Domestic Violence Report

You know I have a serious pet peeve about domestic violence.

My guess is the victim has lots of bruises on her shins........luckily he could reach no higher.
What's below the "D" list?

Post 251: New Blog You Should Know About: Hope House

I've posted several times on domestic violence. I think it is a horrible thing to see a person in this situation. Men who hit women are cowards.

Anyway.....short and sweet today. Hope House sent me a link to a new blog on my facebook page. Maybe they like it when I call out cowards like Larry Johnson, Bill Maas, and now Tom Cable. I'll be adding it to my blogroll and I hope you will too called Front Line of DV by MaryAnne Metheny. She works at Hope House which is one of KC's area shelters for abused women.

I think DV is one of the least respected crimes. By that, I think too many people don't give it the seriousness it deserves. It seems like just in the past few days have allegations surrounding Tom Cable, head coach of the Oakland Raiders, have gotten any momentum.

I think we can all learn a little more about DV. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Metheny. Maybe she will give a little clarity on some of these cowards.
Here are a couple other area shelters
Any and all of them deserve your financial support. You think this economic environment has helped? Now some of these Jackasses are unemployed too and have nothing better to do than make themselves feel more like a man by beating someone who they say they love.
If someone who says they love you hits you he will keep doing it even though he might keep promising he will stop. You have to leave and get help. Your life probably depends on it. Click on one of these shelter's sites and ask them how to do it. Yep, even in JOCO it happens.....probably while you read my blog. Sad.

Regarding the subject of bad boy athletes.....Bill Maas is back.

Oh gee I guess while it is still Domestic Violence month for a couple more days I had someone else on my mind this week and then I promise to try to get to more lighthearted subjects.

I rarely listen to 610 Sports. Bascially because they suck. Rarely do you see such a distant second as 610 is to 810 in the world of sports talk radio. This pains me to say because I'm not a big homer for 810. In fact, Kevin Keitzmann is lame but 610 makes it so easy for him to win day in and day out. But I digress.

Sometimes I check out 610 just to see what's up or I need a good laugh because they are so bad. It sometimes starts when 810 is doing something on racing or grilling. On racing I'm not interested and on grilling I can't stand listening to Kevin kiss that guy's ass so much telling him how great he is for segment after segment. Shoot, I digress again.

So while driving around over by Shawnee Mission Park, I jumped over to 610 to find old Billy Maas as now a regular guest on the Chris and Cowboy show. I about swerved off the road and hit a effing deer that was wounded by a sharp shooter!

It is clear 610 has reached the point of desperation. I wrote about Bill Maas more than year ago when the KC Star wrote their article about how Bill Maas wants his old life back after the years of drug abuse, whoring and yes, something he never has come clean on or says he has gotten help for.....domestic violence. For you hillbillies in Wyandotte County I don't want to be condescending (that means talking down to you) but you can get a definition of domestic violence here.

Bill Maas has been a bad man and a charming one at that. They are the most dangerous kind. I've heard guys say he is so cool, just a regular guy. Usually they say something like, "he always shows up with the hottest girls". "He is such a good guy".

I believe in second, hell even third chances. I believe in forgiveness and redemption. That usually comes with real regret, acknowledgment of shortcomings, and honesty in owning your past while working hard to assure us of change not just trying to pretend it didn't happen.

I never saw this from Bill Maas. All I saw was.....I want my life back bordering on making himself the victim. Yes, Bill, we acknowledge that football is bad for your brain but countless other former world class football players seem to get along fine in life without resorting to your kind of behavior.

It comes on very good knowledge that Bill Maas has a history of beating wives and girlfriends. Just ask Frankie from the old KY102. He has an arrest record for drugs and trying to carry a gun on an airplane. There is a reason the national networks won't have him back when they have taken back so many others who have had missteps with the law. This is a bad dude. 610 shouldn't be giving him a place to resurrect his career. This is a typical athlete with an attitude that the rules don't apply to him. For Bill to comment on Larry Johnson at all is purely wrong.....unless you approach it from "don't make the same mistakes I've made". I didn't hear that. You think we've forgotten.

610 and Billy Bob Maas: I don't have a short memory. I remember. Shame on you 610. I guess I'll have to get used to the effing grilling segment and Racing Boys. I'll not listen to 610 again until this a-hole is off their station.

Trust me, there is a plan brewing. They plan to try him out on this Monday and Friday guest spot and ease him back into the fold. If people don't say anything they will expand it until he has his own show again. We shouldn't allow this. We need to say this isn't okay.

Again, I said this then and I'll say it now. Do some good for others, show real contrition not for what you lost but the harm you've caused others. Help others avoid the same path. We love that story of redemption.

These aren't Bill's victims but this is the face of domestic violence. Pretty cool, eh Bill?

LJ has problem with DV

Of course it must be said that LJ has not been convicted of anything in this latest matter and I'm pretty sure his previous situations (two prior I believe that have been reported) have been resolved without any convictions. It still seems apparent that he has a problem with domestic violence and as with most people who deal with women by beating them it only tends to intensify until it is too late and by too late I don't mean that LJ gets fined or suspended or convicted.....I mean until somebody ends up dead. LJ already participated in a domestic violence counseling program as a condition of his earlier problems but it didn't seem to take.

Domestic Violence is serious issue and one that society has taken too lightly for years and if nothing else Kansas City needs to send a message to Mr. Johnson and those who look up to him that this is not an acceptable way to deal with women.

Larry's off the field efforts for charity are small as well. In reading his contributions I was a little underwhelmed. Might I suggest a huge donation to a local shelter right away?

While speaking up with outrage is a small way that I can act, I am calling on others to take other action.

1. Never again buy Larry Johnson apparel. He benefits financially from each sale.

2. Don't participate in charity or community events where Larry Johnson makes a celebrity appearance. Please call that charity and inform then that you can't support them unless Larry Johnson isn't in attendance.

3. If you are a charity organization or business that utilizes Chiefs' players for your events or promotions do not request Larry Johnson from the Chiefs Community Relations Department.

4. I'd tell you to not purchase brands endorsed by him but with the exception of Rocawear (and really who cares) he doesn't have any endorsement deals that I could find. I think that says volumes about him already in that Madison Avenue doesn't find him appealing. If you want to tell Jay-Z about it you can email them here.

5. Email Jessie Jackson and tell him that he needs to get down here and counsel this thug and spend less time hating Jews and calling everyone a racist.

6. Inform and educate your children that Larry Johnson is not a role model for them because he hits girls. Suggest that if they must idolize an athlete at all that they should look to a guy like Tony Gonzalez who has a long history of doing it right on and off the field.

7. Look out for TKC to label me and whomever speaks the truth about LJ as a racist. When he does leave him a comment that domestic violence isn't a race issue.

8. Tell Roger Goodell (212-450-2000 NFL Public Relations) that LJ must be suspended and encourage him to suspend anyone who is involved with domestic violence. You can also try emailing at roger.goodell2@nfl.net althought I'm not 100% sure of this address.

9. Send a contribution to a domestic violence shelter in your community. They do great work and it cost lost of money. They need and deserve your support. Hope House in Missouri is the largest area shelter. SafeHome is in Kansas. They both deserve your help and resources and you can donate quickly by clicking on their link.

10. Write Larry Johnson himself and send an email to the Chiefs expressing your disappointment. You can email the Chiefs directly here and get their mailing address to send LJ a letter as well.

11. While you were reading this a woman in Kansas City was beaten by somebody who said they love her. The Hope House website says that a woman is beaten every 9 seconds. How long did it take you to read this blog post? They never deserve it.
