Regarding the subject of bad boy athletes.....Bill Maas is back.

Oh gee I guess while it is still Domestic Violence month for a couple more days I had someone else on my mind this week and then I promise to try to get to more lighthearted subjects.

I rarely listen to 610 Sports. Bascially because they suck. Rarely do you see such a distant second as 610 is to 810 in the world of sports talk radio. This pains me to say because I'm not a big homer for 810. In fact, Kevin Keitzmann is lame but 610 makes it so easy for him to win day in and day out. But I digress.

Sometimes I check out 610 just to see what's up or I need a good laugh because they are so bad. It sometimes starts when 810 is doing something on racing or grilling. On racing I'm not interested and on grilling I can't stand listening to Kevin kiss that guy's ass so much telling him how great he is for segment after segment. Shoot, I digress again.

So while driving around over by Shawnee Mission Park, I jumped over to 610 to find old Billy Maas as now a regular guest on the Chris and Cowboy show. I about swerved off the road and hit a effing deer that was wounded by a sharp shooter!

It is clear 610 has reached the point of desperation. I wrote about Bill Maas more than year ago when the KC Star wrote their article about how Bill Maas wants his old life back after the years of drug abuse, whoring and yes, something he never has come clean on or says he has gotten help for.....domestic violence. For you hillbillies in Wyandotte County I don't want to be condescending (that means talking down to you) but you can get a definition of domestic violence here.

Bill Maas has been a bad man and a charming one at that. They are the most dangerous kind. I've heard guys say he is so cool, just a regular guy. Usually they say something like, "he always shows up with the hottest girls". "He is such a good guy".

I believe in second, hell even third chances. I believe in forgiveness and redemption. That usually comes with real regret, acknowledgment of shortcomings, and honesty in owning your past while working hard to assure us of change not just trying to pretend it didn't happen.

I never saw this from Bill Maas. All I saw was.....I want my life back bordering on making himself the victim. Yes, Bill, we acknowledge that football is bad for your brain but countless other former world class football players seem to get along fine in life without resorting to your kind of behavior.

It comes on very good knowledge that Bill Maas has a history of beating wives and girlfriends. Just ask Frankie from the old KY102. He has an arrest record for drugs and trying to carry a gun on an airplane. There is a reason the national networks won't have him back when they have taken back so many others who have had missteps with the law. This is a bad dude. 610 shouldn't be giving him a place to resurrect his career. This is a typical athlete with an attitude that the rules don't apply to him. For Bill to comment on Larry Johnson at all is purely wrong.....unless you approach it from "don't make the same mistakes I've made". I didn't hear that. You think we've forgotten.

610 and Billy Bob Maas: I don't have a short memory. I remember. Shame on you 610. I guess I'll have to get used to the effing grilling segment and Racing Boys. I'll not listen to 610 again until this a-hole is off their station.

Trust me, there is a plan brewing. They plan to try him out on this Monday and Friday guest spot and ease him back into the fold. If people don't say anything they will expand it until he has his own show again. We shouldn't allow this. We need to say this isn't okay.

Again, I said this then and I'll say it now. Do some good for others, show real contrition not for what you lost but the harm you've caused others. Help others avoid the same path. We love that story of redemption.

These aren't Bill's victims but this is the face of domestic violence. Pretty cool, eh Bill?

Kevin almost had it right. Fire LJ

Kevin K over at 810 almost had it right yesterday when discussing Larry Johnson's future with the team. He said they should cut him and give the money to Harvesters.

Close....he almost had it right. LJ beats women. He has a problem with that. They should give the money to a domestic violence shelter like Hope House. You should give too.

It is Domestic Violence Awareness month this month. Hope House has been hit with a double whammy in these tough times. Financial support is off because of the economy while the customer count keeps increasing. Government grants are drying up and jackasses are trying to defeat the COMBAT funds which in part goes to support places like Hope House. In short, there has never been a shortage of needs to fill only a shortage of funds. They have actually had to cut services and people to keep the shelter open. That money would mean everything to a place like Hope House.

The slur he made towards gay people is completely unacceptable. We used to call people fags in the locker room when we were in 9th grade but we didn't know any better. Most of us grew up. Thankfully, times have changed. It is ridiculous that he doesn't know better.

Yo Playa. Your game is up, bitch. Where is Jesse Jackson when a brother steps all over himself?

The Chiefs can't even suck right

I've really tried to avoid writing about the hapless Chiefs this year because to write about it seemed to be well.....boring. I mean highlighting Herman's sermon about how this team is getting better is too easy. He actually said this week that he thought his defense played pretty well against Cincy by giving up over 200 yards rushing to the worst offense in the NFL who had at least 3 starting linemen on IR along with their 2 pro bowl receivers not playing due to injury.

Now that the season is over the only thing I could think of that seemed appropriate is that they can't even suck right. Think about it. In a year when they recorded the worst record in the team's history at just 2-14 they couldn't even manage to get the first pick (or the second) in the draft.

They had to pick this year to be their worst in history when something that has never been done was done. The Lions did the unthinkable and went 0-16. Nobody has ever gone 0-16. Any other year the Chiefs get the first pick but they can't even do that right. Nope, be bad when someone else is even worse......great thinking, great plan, way to go. If that doesn't sum up our painful life as Chiefs fans I'm not sure what does. How do we only win 2 games and still not garner the first pick in the draft? Only our Chiefs could manage such a feat.

By the way....I've been meaning to post about Mitch Holthus for some time but I just haven't gotten around to it. It really should be it's own post but I want to get all this Chiefs crap wrapped up at one time. I know lots of people like him as the voice of the Chiefs but it all drives me crazy. I can't understand why a guy like Kevin Keitzmann has him on the radio show. Asking him his opinion of the Chiefs is like asking Dana Perino (hot White House Press Secretary) what she thinks of President Bush. He can spin anything into a positive. That is the only thing about him that is slightly entertaining.....hearing him try to spin another bad game performance. "Uh, listen Keitz (always uses nicknames so you know he is an insider) I know it wasn't pretty today giving up 8 sacks but did you see Brandon Albert use that quick right step and plug that B gap (throws in technical film room talk) and stop a pro bowl linebacker on a lighting stunt from decleating our gunslinger (insider talk for knocking the qb on his back)? That crap drives me nuts. Don't get me started on his creation of LJ's nickname.....the Centaur. So stupid. Possibly the most ridiculous moniker in sports history. And then he has to mention several times about how he wrote an article about something on his blog.....if you must check it out. I guess it is rough because he has to follow Kevin Harlan who was so incredible.....too incredible to be kept local but still does he have to be so geeky? Oh, did you know you can get Mitchy to speak at one of your events? He has a whole range of motivational speeches and only charges $3500. I wouldn't pay $35. Check it out. Pretty funny.

Now, there are really only three questions worthy of Chief's off season discussion: Does Herman stay, who will be our first pick in the draft, and is this really the best we can do for cheerleaders? Even that is embarassing.

Danny Clinkscale.........Not necessarily a genius

I listen to 810 Sports WHB. I enjoy sports talk. I enjoy the shows and the banter. I miss Whitlock but other than that life is really pretty okay for Kansas City sports.
I laugh at one thing that comes up on a regular basis. Every office has that guy. He is that guy that everyone thinks is the smartest guy in the office. When there are tough questions everyone says go ask the smart guy....he'll know.

At 810 WHB, everyone thinks Danny Clinkscale is that guy. They scratch their heads at his vocabulary and his apparent license to correct other's improper use of the English language. They wax eloquent often about his apparent intellect in a way that would make you think the man is a rocket scientist.

Let me explain something to the lame brains over at 810 WHB. Danny is not a genius. Danny is a genius by comparison to the company which he finds himself. Danny has a vocabulary and intellect that is considered appropriate and normal to most of us in the average south Johnson County world. I laugh when Danny uses a word that is higher than the average third grader would use and the rest of the guys on the air start bellowing about his impressive use of the english language.

Danny reads books about things other than sports. Hey Kevin, that is normal. Perhaps it isn't fair to stereotype and I don't mean to be a "negator". I'll digress for a second on the word "negator". Kevin loves this word. He discovered this word and I guess he thinks it sounds like a word that makes him look smart. Anyway, funny stuff. The other day Kevin was talking about a place where two rivers come together and he says something like.....uh, what's the word Danny about where rivers come together? Danny says, "confluence. I think the word you want is confluence" Kevin says....."yea, that's it.....man, Danny you are a one wicked smart guy." Yea, I guess. What a wordifier!

It is the same principal on guys like Tony LaRussa and Bob Boone. People hold them up as these really uber-smart guys. Again, in the baseball world, they probably are pretty smart but against the backdrop of the rest of the educated word....not so much. Probably in reality just a bit above average. What is funny is when they start believing it themselves.

I like Danny just fine. He is a good guy. I'm not banging on Danny. I'd like to think I'd enjoy spending time with Danny. It is the rest of the guys at 810 WHB like Leabo and Kevin who need to read a book about something other than sports, maybe check out the other sections of the newspaper once in awhile. Danny is just your average, well rounded, well educated midwestern guy.

On a seperate note but still on Danny that I do think is funny is that he is the ultimate man of leisure when it comes to business travel. Soren does have it right when he comments that Danny takes a full travel day for each trip he goes. All of the rest of us take late flights, travel early in the morning, travel late at night to be somewhere to start early the next day. Not Danny. Danny doesn't hurry anywhere. I'm surprised the station doesn't call him on it but it is funny. Soren has it right.
